I'm a board-certified anesthesiologist, pain physician and addictionologist.  (If you care to know more about me professionally, there's a brief summary on the blog page called "How I wound up here.")  My practice, Northern Anesthesia & Pain Medicine LLC is located in Eagle River, Alaska, and I'm blessed to work with the finest people in the world.  Each of us is fully committed to our mission of trying to deliver the Love of God to people in pain.

We practice what we call "E4 medicine" - Evidence Based, Entire, Edifying, and Ethical.  Pain management is a privileged field where we are given the opportunity to meet people at their most vulnerable and in some cases, their worst.  We strive to serve with integrity, compassion and excellence, using the biopsychosocial-spiritual model.

I write a lot too - some clinical research, some textbooks, some trade books, and currently I'm honored to be one of the contributors to the American Academy of Pain Medicine's blog at MedPage Today.

We enjoy teaching also, and we're a clinical training site for the University of Washington School of Medicine as well as the Providence Family Medicine Residency Program.  These young doctors are the future of medicine, and it's a privilege to participate in their education.

Among my very favorite pastimes are hiking and climbing in this great State.  Most of the photographs on this site were taken between 2005 and 2012 with a Panasonic Lumix, and I share them here as part of the blogs in hopes they bring a little sense of wonder, appreciation and gratitude, and transcendence.  Soli Deo Gloria,
